Two Rinks, One Program

Ice hockey season is approaching quickly and there are great things in the works for local youth this year. With two rinks in the area there is more of an opportunity for new players to get on the ice and experience the fun of the game. Recently the CREW and Stowe Youth Hockey boards of directors met to discuss the best way for young hockey players, novices and old hats, to get maximum ice time this season. Earlier this summer CREW and SYH decided that a House League would be formed so kids ages 8 - 16 could play but not have to commit to a full travel schedule. After a lot of thought and discussion about how this program would be organized, CREW and SYH have changed the House League format a bit to accommodate the community members and the overall goal of the program.
The House Program will be the Lamoille Valley House League, supported by Stowe Youth Hockey. It will be based out of CREW for any player from the surrounding area who wants to play in an organized recreational hockey program. It will run Thursday afternoons at CREW with two sessions divided by age groups: 3:30 - 4:30 pm and 4:45 - 5:45 pm from Nov 15th 2004 through Feb 15th 2005. The program will cost $250 per child. In order to achieve the goal of Two Rinks One Program, the House League will be supported by Stowe Youth Hockey so that if the players decide they want to commit to a travel team down the road it will be an easy transition into the travel program. The ultimate goal is to create a larger youth hockey organization that supports the entire area so all our kids can experience the game and see how great it is.
A House Program is a branch of the local youth hockey program. It is intended for those players who want to play hockey but not on a full travel schedule. It is less time and travel and is less expensive for the season. This is a great introduction to hockey for new players as well as a place for players who can't commit to a full schedule due to other sports or obligations. We hope to grow this program over the years to include teams in all age groups so there can be actual games and tournaments with other local house leagues.

CREW and SYH will continue registration for the House League until the season starts. You can sign your children up for the house or travel program uby contacting the numbers below. If you are interested in becoming a coach or referee, please let us know. We can get you trained and certified for this season. For those people who have already signed up with the House Program, there are some changes you need to be aware of. House players will not be obligated to volunteer at Stowe Youth Hockey events or sell raffle tickets. Please call for more details about the changes.
If you have questions about the House Program please call Kelly Miller at CREW at 888-0166 or email her at info@crewarena.org. If you have questions about the SYH travel program please call Bev Ballyk at 253-4761. CREW is located at 704 Bridge Street in Morrisville.

Thanks and we hope to see you on the ice this winter!
